  • 17-18s Teams

  • In-Region tournaments are sponsored by the Carolina Region. They begin in January and are held every Saturday through the beginning of May. Each age group plays on alternating weekends. The quantity of tournaments a team plays is typically determined by each team. The quantity of In-Region tournaments ranges from a minimum of 6 to a maximum of 8-9. These tournaments are mostly local, within 1-4 hours from Raleigh.

The quantity of In-Region tournaments depends on the team level, either -1, -2, -3 Level. The Development Teams do not particiate in any tournaments and the intent is for this not to change. However, with an agreement from Parents, players, and coaches, part of a Development team can participate in an In-region tournament. The cost of attending the tournament is not in the CCVC dues and would be the responsibility of the Parents. CCVC will help in the team resgistration for the tournament expecting the team Rep. to comply with the registration rules. CCVC has organized and plans to organize 2 inter-club tournaments for the development teams and clubs in the area. However this is not a guarantee. The fees would be covered by CCVC. The intent is to provide the athletes the experience of tournament competition and to put in practice what they learned in the referee and scorer clinics.

Out-of-Region tournaments are sponsored by groups outside of the Carolina Region and are held on random weekends since these are scheduled independent from In-Region tournaments. These Out-of-Region tournaments tend to be out of the Raleigh area, from 4 hours away to a plane flight away. Participation in these Out-of-Region events are mostly applicable to the -1 teams, and are budgeted in the -1 team's dues for a specific list of events.

With either tournament type, the quantity of tournaments a team plays is typically determined at the start of each season by the CCVC Executive Board, but there is the option that each team, -1, -2, -3, involving decisiona by the coaches, players and parents may agree to attend additional In-Region or Out-of-region tournaments; however, this decision requires a commitment to spending additional money, and time, as well as, a dedication to the team's desire to attend.

A typical tournament day goes like this:
    • Arrive at the tournament site by 8:00 am.
    • Play begins at 9:00 am.
    • Teams are divided into 2 or 3 pools usually consisting of 4 to 5 teams for each pool.
    • Teams within a pool play each other in a "round-robin" format.
    • During pool play teams are playing, resting or officiating.
    • At the conclusion of pool play, the top two teams, with the most wins each, compete in a final match to determine the first and second place team for the day.
    • The first and second place teams receive medals or trophies.

These tournament days are long, but are often fun-filled. The day generally lasts until 6:00 pm or 7:00 pm, depending on how a team finishes in pool and post-pool play.

Be prepared for any possibility. Bring food, water, sleeping bags, pillows and a couple good books to pass the time and stay fed.

Actual tournament playing time for each player shall be at the sole discretion of the team's coaches and mainly based on the team level philosophy of "play-to-play" vs. "play-to-win". All dues for membership with CCVC guarantees practice time, and not necessarily playing time.

Besides playing in "round-robin" play on their teams, the players also participate in officiating the games. To prepare for this, the Carolina Region requires all players, from every club, to attend refereeing and scorer clinics to become certified to officiate.
