After taking a season off to persue other interests, Jim returns for his fifth season coaching with CCVC.
Jim started playing volleyball in the late 70's and extended his volleyball participation to competitive play in the Cleveland, Ohio, Poughkeepsie, New York, and Raleigh, North Carolina city leagues. He has played in the IBM A and B leagues, winning a Watson Trophy. As Jim has become “youthfully” challenged, he has moved from playing all the positions, to being either a setter or back row player.
As a way to stay involved with volleyball, Jim coaches the Magellan Charter School team in the Triangle Middle School Conference. He also keeps stats and calls service location for the Broughton Caps Varsity volleyball team, he helps coach with former CCVC coach Tim Meserth and also has worked with the YMCA as a volleyball instructor for their volleyball seminars. Jim received his USAV coaches accreditation level 1 in June 2007.
Jim graduated from Kettering Institute (formerly known as General Motors Institute) with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from IBM after 30 years in many different software development jobs. Jim has a wonderful wife, Debbie, and is blessed with 4 great children (Kaitlin 16, Sarah 15, and Jake and Jenny 13). Jim has coached all youth sports for the past 10 years.
